I’m still pinching myself as I write this. I’m absolutely thrilled to share that I’ve been named National Makeup Artist of the Year. What started as a creative outlet during lockdown has grown into something beyond anything I imagined. To receive this level of recognition, especially at a national level, has been an emotional and empowering moment in my journey.
For those of you who don’t know, my name is Jade, and I’m the artist behind JDC Creations. Makeup, for me, has always been about more than looking good. It’s a way to express, to explore, to shift identities and moods. Whether it’s bridal, boudoir, Halloween, or avant-garde editorial work, I thrive on bringing ideas to life and helping people see themselves in a new way.
When I first began playing with makeup during lockdown, it was just me, a few brushes, and a big imagination. I had no formal training, just a love for colour, transformation, and storytelling through makeup. I started experimenting with creative looks, often using myself as the canvas. That quickly evolved into collaborations with local photographers and models, and eventually led to real bookings for weddings, events, and photo shoots.
In 2023, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and enter a “glow-up” competition. I never expected what came next. Val Garland, one of the UK’s most respected makeup artists and a massive name in the industry, noticed my work and actually shared it on her own social media. That gave me a significant boost in confidence and visibility, and reminded me that the path I’ve chosen is worth every challenge.
Winning National Makeup Artist of the Year has added fuel to the fire. It is a proud moment not just for me, but for all the incredible clients and collaborators who have believed in my work along the way. From bridal parties to backstage creatives, every look I create is a chance to connect, to listen, and to bring someone’s vision to life.
The award was presented at a fantastic event which celebrated artists and creatives across the country. I was fortunate enough to be featured in the Milton Keynes Citizen. Although they didn’t credit the image used for the POW campaign, the PopArt photography event held at Saracen House, (a Milton Keynes-based studio) I’d like to acknowledge it here. The beautiful photo was taken by Saracen House, one of the many talented professionals I’ve had the pleasure of working with.
This award is not the finish line, it’s the beginning of a new chapter. There’s so much more to come for JDC Creations, and I can’t wait to take you all with me.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Your support, encouragement, and trust mean the world.
